Meet the new cast of 2 Days 1 Night
With slumping ratings and the exit of Yoo Hae Jin, Uhm Tae Woong and Sung Si Kyung, as well as the recent illegal gambling scandal surrounding Lee Soo Geun, new faces may be just what 2 Days 1 Night needs to win back viewers’ attention. Of course, it may be difficult with rival station MBC’s seemingly impenetrable Sunday lineup of military reality show Real Men and family-friendly Daddy! Where Are You Going?, but 2 Days 1 Night was once the king of Sunday night television. The much-needed discussion of the necessity of change to its repetitive format aside, the exciting news is the announcement of its third season cast, for which original members Cha Tae Hyun and Kim Jong Min return with these four new personalities.
1. Kim Joo Hyuk
Perhaps most recognizable from the 2005 hit drama Lovers in Prague, Kim, 41, will be the oldest of the bunch. He’s also a film actor, having starred in 12 features since 2001.
Fun facts: He was in a six-year relationship with actress Kim Ji Soo; they split in 2009. He also dated his God of War co-star Kim Gyu Ri for a year.
2. Kim Joon Ho
Kim is a veteran comedian who’s been a mainstay of KBS comedy programs since the late ‘90s.
He began his career as one of the frontrunners of Korean hardcore rap, his music dark and gritty. He’s now more famous as a funnyman on a handful of variety programs, most prominently as a regular on I Live Alone and as a frequent guest on Infinity Challenge.
Fun facts: His nickname is “Hip-Hop Dove” because he's a peace advocate. His hobbies include cleaning his apartment, eating and -- I kid you not -- collecting Hello Kitty bedsheets.
4. Jung Joon Young
By far the youngest of the cast is pretty-boy Jung, a rocker who debuted through season four of the Idol-esque survival program Superstar K.
Fun facts: He moved around a lot in his childhood and lived in many places around the world, from Indonesia to France. As a result, he speaks several languages and has a British accent when he speaks English.
5. Cha Tae Hyun
Cha’s had a successful film-and-drama career, among his hits the now-classic rom-com My Sassy Girl, but he’s equally known for his down-to-earth sense of humor and approachable charm.
6. Kim Jong Min
The only remaining cast member of the first-season originals, Kim, who is a singer by profession, has always been a better fit for variety television. His a-little-goofy, a-little-not-all-the-way-there, nice-guy-next-door appeal never quite gets too old.
Be on the lookout for the third season of 2 Days 1 Night, premiering Dec. 1!
