Metal and wires make up Seoul’s hottest new nail trend
There is no denying that Korea is obsessed with fashion. Case and point, a new nail art fashion trend is taking Seoul by storm and it might just be one of Korea’s best yet. The secret behind the craze…wires! Make sure to check out what all the craze is about!
If you are at all interested in the newest and freshest of Korean fashion you have no doubt heard of South Korea’s fashion forward salon Unistella. And for good reason. Unistella’s technicians have been a fixture in the fashion scene since making headlines in 2015 for their glass nail designs and again in 2016 for the bracelet manicure.
However, 2017 might just be their best year yet! Unistella’s founder, Park Eun Kyung, has created a new nail trend that is simply mesmerizing. The new trend, aptly named ‘Wire nails,’ makes use of malleable wires -- in colors like gold, silver, pink, or black -- that are painstakingly manipulated into various shapes using tweezers and then painted onto the nail.
What inspired the concept? Park Eun Kyung claims to have gotten her latest idea from Korea’s many neon signs.
"When you make neon signs, you have to bend the wires to make certain lettering, it's one long wire that's bent to create and connect the letters. I thought this was really cool and since nails are an accessory, I wanted it to be used for expression. Like rings."
While the new wire nails have no limitations to their design, Park advises that it's important to keep the placement of the edges in mind,
"Since it's a wire, you have to make sure the sharp end has a nice finish so it doesn't get caught in clothes."
