Janicel Lubina was from the poorest of the poor background in the Philippines. The family was so poor that they lived in a hut without appliances, a bed, or even a chair. Now, the 19-year-old beauty will represent the Philippines as 2015 Miss Filipino International (Binibining Pilipinas) in the Miss International pageant in Japan. How did she make her way to the crown?

Janicel Lubina is not ashamed of her poor background. She grew up with her family in Palawan, Philippines. Her father used to work as a gas station attendant but suffered a mild stroke. Janicel was still in high school but had to work as a housemaid, like her mother did, to put food on the table. As she recalled, "I had to work as house helper during my third year in high school because my father had a mild stroke. I became a housemaid since my mother also was one."

Fortunately, Janicel was endowed with a stunning natural beauty. When she was out on an errand, she was spotted by a beautician who was impressed by her beauty and her 5'9.5" height and introduced her to a beauty pageant trainer. She was able to win 3,000 Philippine pesos (US$67) in her first pageant. She has continued to work hard to improve herself to become an elegant beauty who is not just poised but also has the intellect and knowledge. And she is only 19. She is currently pursuing a bachelor of science degree in tourism management at the STI College in the Philippines.
