My Love From Another Star is so universally popular that even if you haven't watched it, you likely know it's about an alien from outer space who has been stranded on Earth for 400 years until he meets and falls in love with a beautiful but temperamental actress. The chemistry between Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun is simply dazzling, and the love between their characters is undeniably romantic and enduring beyond space and time.
We fans are naturally stunned to learn that one of our favorite dramas will be edited and changed drastically in China.
First of all, it will be 30 episodes instead of 21. Okay, that is probably acceptable given the different lengths that it could be broadcast, but read on.
In the version that will be broadcast via Anhui TV in China, the surprise ending is that Professor-Starman Do Min Joon will turn out to be a writer. The wonderful romance about an alien falling to Earth and falling in love with an actress is just a story written by writer Do Min Joon for actress Cheon Song Yi.
They may as well turn it into a dream!
A representative of the Korean production company for My Love From Another Star said that the Chinese company acquired full distribution and editing rights of the beloved drama, and so the Korean company can't stop the changes.
Before you hurl accusations at the Chinese company, the news report also said that the drama could not pass government inspection unless changes were made. In case you missed it, The Empress of China was forced to edit cleavage scenes or risk being banned.
What do you think? Are you surprised?
