Romantic drama My Sassy Girl, starring Joo Won and Oh Yeon Seo, is ramping up in popularity. Aside from a lovely story of a budding romance between an unconventional princess and a handsome scholar, the lushly-filmed drama showcases a feast of gorgeous and vividly-colored Korean historical costumes worn by the leading couple and even the villains too. Take a look!

At first glance, the bright and intense colors used for the costumes already catch your eye, but the close-ups reveal stunning details in the fabrics and the design. Even the plain-colored gowns may be enhanced with embroidered appliques. While the ladies wear delicately crafted accessories to match their colorful dresses, the men also wear sumptuous outfits. And, don't forget to peruse the artfully decorated surroundings where our characters reside.

We'll start with Gyeon Woo, who is practically a runway model for Joseon men's fashion in this drama.

1. Gyeon Woo (Joo Won) - the scholar who accidentally meets the princess. Son of a royal minister, he is well educated and possesses the looks and manner that makes him the most sought-after bachelor in the Joseon kingdom.

2. Princess Hyemyeong (Oh Yeon Seo) - the King's daughter who defies convention in her quest to uncover the truth. Behind her sassy facade hides a sorrowful heart that misses her mother, the Queen who was deposed a decade ago.

The back of her costume looks stunning too.

3. Kang Joon Young (Lee Jung Shin) - the palace commander who is secretly in love with the princess and would do anything to help her. Will the stoic swordsman ever open up about his heart's desire?

4. Jung Da Yeon (Kim Yoon Hye) - the beautiful daughter of a powerful minister. She is vain, selfish, and craves Gyeon Woo's love. (We don't think she has a chance, do you?) She does have an awesome wardrobe, though.

She certainly has no shortage of Joseon flower boys for suitors:

5. Miss Jung and her circle of gossipy girlfriends dress up for outings to a trendy tea house or to get their nails done.

6. Jung Ki Joon (Jung Woong In) - the chief villain parades around with some fancy costumes too.

8. King Hwijong (Son Chang Min) also goes through wardrobe changes more than the usual drama king. We do wish he'll do something about his scheming second Queen.

8. Among the royals, we especially love the young prince Wonja. What a great smile!

9. Prince Dalhan (Sun Zu Jun, aka Kris Sun) - Let's not forget the surprisingly appealing Chinese prince, (speaking with a nice voice and perfect Mandarin,) who is almost giving us a change of heart.

And, here is a handsome white stallion outfitted to match his royal handsomeness:

10. But, of course our heart is with the leading couple. Will they reach their happy ending and new beginning?

For those of you who haven't watched My Sassy Girl, now is the time to start because we fans are anticipating more of the fabulous costumes, and a kiss scene!

On a side note, the costumes worn by the Qing Dynasty royals including the Chinese Emperor are mostly incorrect. For comparison, please check out my article on Chinese historical dramas.
