“Goodbye. I’ll be back,” Joo Won of My Sassy Girl waved to his fans at a military camp on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Prior to enlistment, he shared girlfriend BoA had told him, “Stay healthy for the time that would feel long and simultaneously short.”

Yesterday at an army training camp in Cheolwon, Kangwon province, Joo Won wore a black hat to hide his shaved head, possibly to prevent the fans' hearts from breaking. He smiled widely and shook hands with each fan, thanking them.

Joo Won had auditioned and gotten accepted to the police band but decided to join the army instead, which proves his determination to serve the country like any average Korean man would.

Joo Won will receive six weeks of basic training in Cheolwon and get stationed elsewhere.

Joo Won has been busy before enlisting. He finished filming My Sassy Girl, which premieres May 29 on DramaFever.

At the My Sassy Girl press conference on Monday, Joo Won said, “I’m enlisting tomorrow. I feel fine. Calm and relaxed. I remember worrying with the staff members about receiving my enlistment letter while filming My Sassy Girl.”

Last Saturday, this fool for the fans hosted the last fan concert before military, where he sang Love Medicine (Good Doctor)and My Love (Baker King Kim Tak Goo).

Joo Won left for the military, but he leaves behind a great historical drama, My Sassy Girl, which Joo Won deliberately chose for his fans. “I filmed My Sassy Girl because the fans wanted (me to film) a historical romantic comedy,” the actor said.

Another historical drama popular at the moment is Ruler: Master of the Mask starring Yoo Seung Ho and Kim So Hyun. If you’re into sageuks, check out the 10 most popular historical K-dramas according to Nielsen ratings.

Goodbye and stay safe, Joo Won!
