Our couple should be well on the way to making their office romance work, but just when things start looking up for our OTP…..their family comes in to make the situation more difficult than need be. Will Jin Wook and Yoo Mi ever clear up their misunderstandings? Have their parents gone too far? Is there any hope still lingering around for our SLS? Join Cici, Wendilynn and Firnlambe as they discuss episodes 10 and 11 of My Secret Romance.

Wendilynn: I get that we are wrapping up this series soon, but there were a few too many flashbacks this week. It probably wouldn’t have seemed so much if these two episodes had been spaced a week apart like they should have been, but in any case, this is what we got. At least we got a few good scenes to talk about. I think Hye Ri and Mom took the show this week. Oh my gosh, can we just shoot her Mother now?

Firnlambe: //holds back the rage she feels towards Mother// The amount of flashback that were used were ridiculous. I know it’s being used to express all of this pent up emotion between the two of them, but still it was slightly uncalled for.

Cici: I get that all those flashbacks are supposed to let us see how miserable Yoo Mi and Jin Wook are without each other, but really? 90% of the episodes were Memories...Light the corners of my mind….misty watercolor memories….okay, I’ll stop. And as far as shooting the mom goes, “Better late than never!” You could have knocked me over with a feather when she kept going on about her daughter’s relationship with Jin Wook on the air!

Wendilynn: When Mom first cleared up the child issue with “Grandpa”, I laughed a lot at that scene. I was like, “FINALLY, SOMEBODY!”. But then to turn that around and publicly call out her daughter on national TV was just too much. I have to wonder if Mom thought she was getting some revenge for her daughter or if she really is that stupid that she seriously thought she was just relaying a funny story about someone disrespecting her womb.

Firnlambe: Funny Story? FUNNY STORY?!? I swear if my own mother was this thoughtless when it came to sensitive situations I would have had a stroke by now. How Yoo Mi is able to accept what her mother does and do nothing about it boggles my mind.

Cici: I’m pretty sure Mom’s just that stupid. It was a relief that she stood up to Jin Wook’s father, though. And I can sort of understand that Jin Wook would be disappointed that the child wasn’t his. He had built up this fantasy world/family pretty quickly, and it was not that far-fetched, given how Yoo Mi had never explained the kid’s existence. But given the hard time everyone has had due to a lack of communication, you would think he would make sure that Yoo Mi knew right away that he loves her, not just the idea of being a daddy.

Wendilynn: It’s clear that Jin Wook is out of his depths. Sung Hoon is doing a good job of portraying a guy who doesn’t know what to do. All these memories, you’d think Yoo Mi would realize that half of his lovely words came BEFORE he knew about baby brother. But, oh well. If kdramas had good communication, then we wouldn’t have much of a show to watch. Lol

Firnlambe: I think it will forever bother me that Yoo Mi just wouldn’t admit that she had a half-brother. So much angst and potential flashbacks could have been avoided, my sanity would have stayed intact //sigh//

Cici: At least Hyun Tae finally got around to confessing his feelings. Too little, too late, but like he said, it was something he thought she should know. Of course, that would be the exact moment when Jin Wook shows up. I was kind of surprised he didn’t jump in and break them up. Maybe he’s getting more mature after all.

Wendilynn: I was half hoping Tae Hyun would turn her around so she could see who was standing there since he didn’t have a angry, revenge, whatever look on his face. But instead they allowed Jin Wook to be the adult and let them have their moment. I had to smile when he cursed him though. I really get a kick of the small things he says to himself.

Firnlambe: I love watching Jin Wook grow up while figuring out his love with Yoo Mi. I had hoped he would have come up and interrupted them too, but in the long run it was for the best that he didn’t so Hyun Tae could have some final closure moments.

Cici: I keep expecting Hyun Tae and Hye Ri to get together. Not that I think that would be a good idea. But Hyun Tae seems to understand her better than anyone else. If she could just get over this obsession with Jin Wook, she might be almost human. She did cook for him, and hastened to tell him that eating the food didn’t have to mean that he accepted her feelings. I still don’t necessarily trust her, but maybe they can all end up friends?

Firnlambe: Please dear God no.

Wendilynn: I think they’ll transition to friends now. I still enjoyed the pig skin scene. Her drunk, talking about one night stands, and asking Hyun Tae to go to Hong Kong was hilarious. I think that was the first moment when I really liked her character.

Firnlambe: Ok I admit I enjoyed watching drunk Hye Ri. If she was like that while not drunk then I would be ok with her hooking up with Hyun Tae.

Cici: Eh, I still don’t actually like her. But getting a little more backstory makes it easier to understand her. I can see where being hung up on a guy for ten years, and having that obsession encouraged by both fathers, could seriously mess with your expectations. But I wouldn’t be sad if she didn’t make any more appearances in this drama. On the other hand, could we please have more Secretary Jang and Sexy Cook?

Wendilynn: I want more Sec. Jang and Sexy Cook. Those two characters are a hoot. Love them. I like that Sec. Jang talked about owning his look. No matter what anyone says, it makes him happy and everyone else can go take a hike. Jin Wook and Yoo Mi have to own who they are and that they love each other anyway. I wonder if Jin Wook will walk away from the company for Yoo Mi? I can see the tabloids having a field day with her mother’s past. Either that, or Yoo Mi grows a pair and stops letting her Mom’s life intimidate her.

Screenshot (361).png

Firnlambe: Secretary Matchy Match is the best. I love that he looks out for Jin Wook and helps steer him in the right direction when he’s too lost to find it on his own. That being said I don’t think he’d let Jin Wook just abandon the company. I could see him trying his best to keep the tabloids under some semblance of control...but that would lead back to Yoo Mi needing to grow a pair for him to successfully do that. If she just continues handling it the way she always has I’ll be disappointed.

Cici: Honestly, as long as Yoo Mi lets what everyone else says about her mom bother her, she will never get past being that hurt high-schooler. Both Yoo Mi and Jin Wook have been hurt by their mothers, and they both need to accept them, forgive them, and move on. I’m hoping that the brief reference to Jin Wook’s mom will be expounded upon in the next episode, though. We still don’t know much about her, and she seems to hold one of the keys to his heart

Looks like our romantic waters are still packed full of turbulence. Will Jin Wook be able to find Yoo Mi before she does something drastic? Who was it that revealed her mother’s past work history in the first place? How would you feel about our Second Leads becoming friends, or something more? Let us know in the comment section below and we’ll see you again next week.
