Olympic ice skater, Yuzuru Hanyu, is a favorite among Japan's ice skating team, a fact which was made ever so clear yesterday, with the help of heaps of Winnie the Poohs!

So, what's the deal with all the Pooh bear plushies? It's actually a tradition that's been carried on for a while now thanks to Hanyu's loyal fans! The most diehard of his Japanese fanbase usually travel with the ice skating star just to catch his performances and support him by launching the adorable stuffed animals onto the ice after his programs are finished.

Check out his full skate here.

Winnie the Pooh has become Hanyu's personal mascot. Hanyu can be seen sporting his faithful companion before every competition, interacting with it for good luck (apparently he may be a little superstitious).

There may have been more bears thrown than usual this time, though, and for good reason, as Yuzuru set an Olympic record with his incredible short program. He scored a stunning 111.68 points, causing the female commentator to note "that was everything you could ever want in a short program". Well, maybe not EVERYTHING! How about one of those adorable Pooh bears for the road?
