Korean celebrities are reviving the ice bucket challenge to promote awareness of Lou Gehrig's disease. Jinusean's Sean started the challenge two weeks ago and nominated Park Bo Gum, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, and Daniel Henney. Since then, it’s catching on like wildfire.

In 2011, Sean and Park Seung Il, basketball player with Lou Gehrig’s disease, set up the Seung Il Hope Foundation to open the first ALS center in Korea. They raised enough funds to buy land to build the center when the ice bucket challenge went viral in 2014. They’re hoping to cover the construction cost through this summer’s fundraising. On May 29, Sean dumped ice and water over his head and challenged his friends. Park Bo Gum and Sooyoung participated within 24 hours, and Daniel Henney a bit later, probably because of the time difference.

Park Bo Gum after successfully completing the challenge nominated Kwak Dong Yeon, Yeo Jin Goo, and Lee Joon Hyuk. So many other celebrities have supported the ALS center since: Park Hae Jin, IU, Jung Woo Sung, Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun, Jung Da Bin, Winner’s Seungyoon and Jinwoo, iKon’s B.I, Wanna One's Kang Daniel and Seongwoo, and Cha Tae Hyun to name a few. Kim Myung Soo (L) nominated his Miss Hammurabi costar Go Ah Ra, which was cute.

The K-pop stars’ participation through the challenge and donation motivated their fans to donate in the name of their stars. Park Bo Gum’s fans are donating on his birthday, which is tomorrow, and Kang Daniel’s fans crashed the Seung Il Hope Foundation’s website trying to make donations.
