Passenger plane hits highway before crashing into river in Taiwan
A TransAsia Airways plane carrying 58 passengers clipped the side of a highway before crashing into a river in Taiwan. At least 31 people were killed in the crash, with 15 surviving and 12 still missing.
A camera mounted on a car's dashboard caught the dramatic crash as it happened, and the footage has been shared online. The clip shows the plane turning sideways before hitting the highway and then landing into Taipei's Keelung River.
The crash occurred just after takeoff from the nearby Taipei airport. Officials have not officially determined the cause of the accident, but the last communication from the pilots recorded them declaring an emergency because an engine flamed out.
Emergency teams immediately descended upon the crash in hopes of rescuing any survivors. We send our condolences to the friends and family of those who lost their lives in the crash, and we hope for a speedy recovery for those who were injured.
