The late New York artist Tobias Wong collaborated with Ken Courtney, Ju$t Another Rich Kid, to create swallowable 24K goldleaf capsules a few years ago. The Gold Pills were launched in 2005 as part of their INDULGE line, an art project that comments on society's ever-expanding market of luxury items. INDULGENCES (for the man who has absolutely everything) addressed the creation of and demand for the unnecessary, directly commenting on the ever-expanding market of luxury items in our culture. They created seven INDULGENCES, and these gold capsules were one. In the past seven years, the pills have become a hit with luxury addicts and their price has gone up to a whopping $425. However, the website "CITIZEN: Citizen" does not specify how many pills were sold at the said price.
The website advertises the effect of pills to "turn your innermost parts into chambers of wealth."
I love eating gold as much as the next person, but going all King Midas and turning inner things to gold might be a little much...
What do you think? Would you buy these?
