Popular Japanese lemon milk leads to lemon-infused food craze
The Tochigi Lemon, a drink only available in the Tochigi Prefecture of Japan, became so popular it's created a wide variety of lemon-infused food products, and you will not believe these combinations.
First of all, the Tochigi Lemon is indeed a lemon drink, but it's not just any lemon drink. It's basically lemon milk, and apparently it's super delicious and great for your health, to boot. The only way to get your hands on the Tochigi Lemon was by actually going to Tochigi (if you don't live there), or purchasing it online. The bitter lemon and the milk are supposed to leave a creamy yet bitter aftertaste in your mouth, and Tochigi Lemon quickly came to be Tochigi Prefecture's very own, original drink.
Now, more than a year and a half later, Tochigi Prefecture is lemon milking it. You can get a wide variety of lemon food products, such as lemon tofu, lemon sausage, lemon udon noodles, lemon bean cake, and cold lemon Chinese noodles. If you think about it, it makes sense because besides the many health benefits of lemon, squeezing it on many foods and drinks adds a lightly sour but refreshing taste. So as weird as lemon udon sounds, it's probably surprisingly delicious.
And another fact: Tochigi is actually known for its gyoza (dumplings).
