Popular noona romance 'My Queen' slated for K-drama remake
The Taiwanese drama, My Queen, is going to get remade into a Korean drama. It's the first time that the rewriting rights to a T-drama's original screenplay have been sold to South Korea . It's also an indicator that noona romances (older woman and younger man) remain popular.
My Queen, starring Cheryl Yang and Ethan Ruan, is about a 33-year old, single career woman who finds her life turned upside down when she falls for a handsome young man who is 8 years younger and has no professional job. In the drama, she wants to get married but is concerned about the many differences between them.
The older-woman-younger-man romance is a unique theme in T-dramas and has become a big hit among Chinese-language audiences as well as overseas viewers. It's actually a lot more frequent to find such an interesting pairing in Korean dramas because who can forget couples such as Hyun Bin and Kim Sun Ah in My Lovely Samsoon? Additionally, the beautiful Ha Ji Won was 8 years older than Lee Seung Gi, although she looked forever young when they co-starred in King 2 Hearts. She was also older then Hyun Bin when they starred in the immensely popular Secret Garden.
One of the hottest dramas in 2013, I Hear Your Voice, also successfully paired Lee Bo Young and Lee Jong Suk in an unabashed noona romace.
I wonder who will star in the Korean version of My Queen?
