Rain and Yoo Ji Ahn are the faces of Yves Saint Laurent in Chinese-speaking countries
L'Oréal Group's well-known luxury cosmetics brand Yves Saint Laurent, headquartered in Paris, has just rolled out its newest Dangerous Rouge campaign in Chinese-speaking territories. Mega-entertainer Rain and supermodel Yoo Ji Ahn (유지안 a.k.a. Yoo Gi An) have been chosen as the faces of this best-selling product line.
The news about Rain becoming a YSL China model happened back in mid-December, but the official ads are just now hitting the beauty and fashion worlds. Gorgeous. Don't you agree?
A company representative stated, "This year's YSL Dangerous Rouge has a concept of passion, temptation, love, and desire. Rain's strong yet gentle image fits in perfectly with the concept. Also, Rain has been recognized for his charismatic performances and excellent acting skills. He is a long-lasting global star active in various fields, so we chose him as YSL's new model."
Charismatic and global, yes indeed. And as I understand it, his very recognizable lips were also a factor. :)
Watch Rain in his latest K-drama, My Lovable Girl:
It's no surprise to me that Yoo Ji Ahn was chosen as well. Her lips were made for Dangerous Rouge. She has a new pictorial out now in Allure Korea Magazine, and in 2014 she graced the pages of W Korea, Grazia, Harper's BAZAAR, and ELLE Bride, to name a few. She walked the runway for Jenny Packham and Adam Selman last year and modeled for Jill Stuart and Dior Couture. In 2013, she was featured in Brown Eyed Soul's "Always Be There" music video.
As the new slogan says, it all begins with the lips.
Last week, YSL China made 50 Dangerous Rouge Nationwide Limited Rain Edition gift sets available to 50 lucky buyers. The price was $830 USD (5100 元 yuan) a set — 6 lipstick colors, 6 lip glaze colors, 6 nail polish colors, 2 YSL and Rain Highlights CDs, and a limited autographed Rain poster. While that sticker price immediately put me in shock, I've no doubt a throng of socialites, celebs, and women who can afford it grabbed their credit cards and jumped at the offer without thinking twice.
Incidentally, this isn't the first time Rain and Yoo Ji Ahn worked together on a fashion campaign. Back in the summer of 2009, they modeled in a Six To Five pictorial for ELLE Magazine way up in the French Alps.
A preliminary teaser with Yoo Ji Ahn called "The Elevator" was released last week. Hopefully, some official Dangerous Rouge CFs and TV spots will be released shortly.
Congrats to these two hardworking and successful models. This is a terrific 2015 kickoff for their careers!
