RaNia introduces K-pop's first African American girl group member
RaNia is breaking all kinds of social barriers in what might be the most exciting news for international K-pop fans. DR Music has officially announced that RaNia's newest group member is Alexandra Reid, an African America rapper from the United States.
On November 4, RaNia's agency, DR Music, released the group's video teaser for their upcoming comeback "Demonstrate" featuring Alexandra Reid and announced on Facebook soon after of her initiation into the group, stating, "African-American rapper Alexandra has officially joined as a member and will start promotions from this album onward. This is the first time that an African-American member has joined, so please give us some focus."
The announcement created quite a buzz among K-pop fans, and social media and is building up extreme excitement towards their impending comeback.
Alexandra, who is now called Alex, is a 21-year-old rapper hailing from Kansas and has been a part of the American entertainment company Def Jam since she was 15 years old. She was preparing to debut in America when she heard about RaNia and signed on as an official member instead. Alex became a fan of K-pop through YouTube and decided to become a part of the Korean entertainment industry with RaNia.
Due to visa issues, though, she was only able to join the group just last month (hence why she is not in any of the teaser images), but she is currently preparing with the rest of her group for their comeback. Alex will appear publicly with the five other members of RaNia for the first time on November 5 on M!Countdown.
We are excited to see what she and the newly reformed RaNia will bring and wish them the best of luck.
