Doctor Romantic proves popularity by breaking 20 percent ratings
Viewers in South Korea are tuning in and falling in love with Doctor Romantic. The series that stars Han Suk Kyu, Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yun Suk has broken the golden viewership ratings goal of 20 percent!
Since the show started airing on November 7, the ratings have steadily rose with each episode. According to data from Nielsen Korea, the first episode opened up with 9.5 percent and quickly broke into the double-digits with the second episode at 10.8 percent. With the sixth and seventh episode both pulling in an 18 percent viewership rating, the drama appeared to be well on its way to hit that 20 percent mark. On Tuesday, the eighth episode surpassed that target percentage with 21.7 percent.
“If you really want to get revenge become a much better human being than those people. Don’t get revenge with anger, but with skill,” a kind doctor says to a young Kang Dong Joo (Yoo Yun Suk) in the beginning of the first episode. The words belong to the brilliant, romanticist Dr. Boo Yong Joo (Han Suk Kyu), who later adopts the moniker Teacher Kim after leaving the big city to work in the countryside medical clinic. Teacher Kim later mentors other doctors including a grown-up Kang Dong Joo and ardent Yoon Seo Jung (Seo Hyun Jin), showing and teaching them that humanity can and still exists in the medical field despite public and personal cynicism.
Viewers resonate with the show’s life lessons and are intrigued with the realistic medical scenes – audiences love a good medical drama and SBS knows this. With Doctor Romantic’s current success, it can be added to the channel’s previous medical ratings hit Doctor Crush, starring Park Shin Hye and Kim Rae Won.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Doctor Romantic!
