Samurai Star Wars action figures hit stores in Japan
A set of Star Wars action figures was just released in Japan that may be the coolest Star Wars action figures yet. Stressing the obvious Japanese influence of the Star Wars plot and characters, these action figures of Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers are made to look 100% Japanese - straight up samurai-style.
Everybody knows that Star Wars creator George Lucas was greatly influenced by legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa and his body of work. Kurosawa's films, most notably The Hidden Fortress, even played a signifiant role in the structuring of the Star Wars plot, with costumes and weapons worn and used by some of the main characters looking similar to those of the samurai, who were often portrayed in Kurosawa's many films. To take things one step further, Japanese acton figure company Tamashii Arrows created a line of awesome, truly Samurai Star Wars action figures.
As part of the "Meishou Movie Realization Series", which recreates popular movie characters as action figures in true Japanese form, Tamashii Arrows developed the "Meisho Movie Realization Star Wars Samurai Taisho Darth Vader and Trooper," a set of 7.1 inch, detailed action figures which come in two sets of katanat (swords) and three sets of hands for different poses, at a reasonable price of 9504 yen, or about 81 dollars. These figures are a must for any Star Wars fan or action figure collector.
