A recent report out of Wenzhou, China sounds and looks more like the beginning of a horror movie than a real news story. Residents of the city woke up one morning to see that their river had mysteriously transformed into a disturbing blood-red color.

Officials from the Wenzhou Environmental Protection Bureau were immediately called in to take samples of the frightening river, and locals have stated that they haven't been able to catch any fish since they discovered the darkened body of water.

While there has been no official statement on the cause of the coloration, some suspect that the river's deep red hue could be from people dumping food coloring chemicals in the water upstream. Either way, it's probably a good idea to steer clear of the river until they determine the exact cause of the incident.
