See a real-life Mario Kart race zip though the streets of Tokyo
Twitter users in Tokyo tweeted real-life Mario Kart racephotos from Shibuya and the neighboring streets--all legal, all fun!
Dressed in Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach costumes(or any costume of choice), a group of fun-loving foreigners and Japanese raced through the streets of Tokyo in Mario Karts to the delight (mostly) of passerby and other drivers. The karts were rented from Akiba Cart, a kart rental company in Tokyo that allows anyone to rent one as long as they have a valid driver's license. The Mario Kart racers belong to a social meet-up/event group called The Tokyo Gaijins. According to Akiba Cart, this is the 4th time this group rented out karts from them.
According to their website, Akiba Cart rents carts out for 2500 yen an hour, and 10,000 yen for the whole day. On top of this, you must pay a membership fee, so renting out a cart overnight will cost you about 18,000 yen, close to 200 dollars. Not bad! Who wouldn't want to zip through the streets of Tokyo in a go-kart?
