Song Joong Ki's agency has pre-confirmed that he has decided on his post-military comeback drama, Descendants of the Sun, written by Kim Eun Sook, the writer of Heirs and A Gentlemen's Dignity

Song Joong Ki is said to have met in person with the writer and accepted her offer after discussing the role. His agency has decided to hold back the final confirmation and details about the new drama until he has been released from the military in May. The drama was originally scheduled to be broadcast by SBS in May; however, it has been sold to KBS instead. KBS originally planned to air the drama in May after Blood, but because the male lead is now to be played by Song Joong Ki, who is in the military, it will premiere in July or October instead. KBS plans to strengthen their content the second half of this year with what they hope will be huge hits, School 2015 and Descendants of the Sun. The drama will be produced by Lee Eung Bok, who also produced Discovery of Romance.

Descendants of the Sun is about a UN Peacekeeping lead commander (Song Joong Ki) and his relationship with a doctor from Doctors Without Borders. In the beginning they dislike each other, but they grow to love each other while working side by side in dangerous situations to save lives in conflict zones. The drama reportedly will film 80% in overseas locations and will be fully pre-produced before release.
