When you think of the typical K-drama female lead, many fans think of the sweet, hardworking girl who is kind to everyone around her, like Go Mi Nyu in You're Beautiful or Geum Jan Di in Boys over Flowers. While it's easy to root for this kindhearted leading ladies, sometimes we enjoy seeing a female lead who is a little more rough around the edges, like UEE's hot-tempered character in the new series Fool's Love. It's refreshing to see female leads who aren't sweet by nature. Here are 12 female leads who managed to win our hearts with their rude, gruff, fighting, potty-mouthed ways:

1. Cheon Song Yi (Jeon Ji Hyun) in My Love from Another Star

Jeon Ji Hyun has won numerous awards for this role, and for good reason. She stole the show as the hilarious, selfish starlet who knows what she wants and goes for it without reservation.

2. Kim Sam Soon (Kim Sun Ah) in My Lovely Sam Soon

Remember how Sam Soon stars the series by shoving a cake into Hyun Bin's face? This woman is no shrinking violet. At first, Hyun Bin's character finds her coarse language and blunt manners shocking, but eventually he can't resist her, and neither can we.

3. Baek Yeo Chi (Jung Ryeo Won) in History of a Salaryman

This one's a personal favorite of mine. It's always a disappointment when a female lead starts out with a personality and then just cries for the second half of the series, but that's not the case with Baek Yeo Chi! From start to finish, she owns her gruff side without apology.

4. Jang Hye Sun (Lee Bo Young) in I Hear Your Voice

Early in her career, Lee Bo Young made a name for herself as a pretty face, but this is just one of the roles that has proved she can do much, much more. This sharp-witted and sharp-tongued lawyer helped make the show a fan favorite.

5. Kang Hye Na (Yoon Eun Hye) in Take Care of the Young Lady

The entire premise of the show revolves around Seo Dong Chan (Yoon Sang Hyun) helping the haughty, arrogant Hye Na come down from her pedestal. It's a fun reversal of the usual chaebol heir male lead cliches.

6. Shin Joo Yeon (Kim So Yeon) in I Need Romance 3

Joo Yeon makes it to the top of the fashion sales world by putting on a hard exterior to the world. It takes a sweet childhood friend (played by Sung Joon) to break through her armor and warm her heart.

7. Kwang Tae Hee (Kim Nam Joo) in Queen of Reversals

If you get tired of unemployed female leads who aren't really good at anything, check out Queen of Reversals! Kwang Tae Hee is smart, capable, and cutthroat. Although she learns kindness and humility along her journey, she never lets people push her around.

8. Go Hye Mi (Suzy) in Dream High

I don't think anyone would call Hye Mi sweet at the start of this show. She didn't empathize with others, and she was self-centered. And yet, we still root for her and the other underdogs at their elite performing arts school.

9. Seo Eun Gi (Moon Chae Won) in Nice Guy

Moon Chae Won is perfect as the ruthless, angry heiress Eun Gi. Unfortunately, she develops a big case of amnesia brain halfway through the series that makes her considerably more docile and less exciting.

10. Do Do Hee (UEE) in Fool's Love

In episode 1 of the series, Do Hee as a talented swimmer and a beauty, but her lovely exterior is hiding a terrible temper. I can't wait to see more of UEE in this role!
