The best mukbang series Let’s Eat 3 has been giving us mad food cravings, especially when it comes to refreshing foods that look as if they would cure the worst case of heat stroke. Additionally, Highlight’s Yoon Doo Joon and actress Baek Jin Hee are amazing food fighters who make everything look irresistibly delicious. Let’s explore the best summer eats in Korea!

1. Cold buckwheat noodles

This is probably the most well-known Korean summer dish. Cold buckwheat noodles, or naengmyeon as it’s called in Korean is literally a dish of cooked noodles served cold. It comes with slices of radish and cucumber and a boiled egg. There are two main types, which are Pyongyang and Hamheung naengmyeons, originating from the respective cities. The Pyongyang naengmyeon noodles are thick and similar to that of the Japanese soba. The Hamheung naengmyeon noodles, on the other hand, are thin and springy. Watch Yoon Doo Joon eat naengmyeon here.

2. Chicken and beer

Seoul is a city that never sleeps with its bright neon signs and people bustling around the streets even in the wee hours of the night. During those late nights, it’s not hard to find chicken restaurants packed with people sitting outside in plastic chairs, eating chicken and sipping on beer, either because they were craving late night snacks, or because they wanted some drunk food.

3. Sashimi

Korea being a peninsula, many Koreans take summer vacations by the beach. After a day of swimming, they stop by at a fish restaurant for some sashimi.

When we think of raw fish, we immediately think of sushi, but sashimi is the more common type of raw fish in Korea. Visit any seaside town in Korea and you’ll have access to raw snapper, halibut, tuna, and more. Watch Yoon Doo Joon eat sashimi and fish stew.

4. Abalone

Abalone supposedly keeps you cool from the summer heat. In this video above, you can see Yoon Doo Joon eating abalone baked with butter, raw in a salad, cooked in porridge, and more.

5. Beet pasta

Another noodle dish that rivals naengmyeon on the list is beet pasta. Beet made into pasta noodles may sound weird, but it’s a healthy alternative to carbs. When Sunwoo Sun (Ahn Woo Yeon) of CQ Food samples beet pasta with cream, the noodles look sweet, sour, and perfectly refreshing for the hot weather.

6. Rooftop BBQ

Korean barbecue isn’t a summer-only meal per se, but given it tastes better when enjoyed outside, summer nights are the best time to do KBBQ. Watch the boys in Let’s Eat 3 enjoy thinly sliced beef wrapped in lettuce here.

7. Bingsu

Lastly, this shaved ice dessert has been a summer staple for decades in Korea. The original and most popular kind is called patbingsu with red beans, but other varieties include fruits, jellies and cookies as ingredients.
