This Asian American woman irrefutably proved that feminism is not dead in less than 24 hours
The hashtag #NotYourAsianSidekick, which was started by Suey Park, a Colorado-based freelance writer, exploded over Twitter this week. What started as a hashtag has escalated into a full grown grassroots movement to support Asian-American feminism. The topic that began as a United States phenomenon quickly has spread all over the world. #NotYourAsianSidekick was used more than 45,000 times in less than 24 hours all over the globe.
Some of the topics that have been linked to the hashtag are the stereotyping of Asian women, the low representation of Asian-Americans in media, and racism. Park's tweets indicate that she has no intention of stopping the discussion anytime soon. She recently tweeted, "This is not a trend, this is a movement."
