Not like you need another reason to listen to K-pop, but just to validate your obsession, a research shows that not only are your favorite tunes helping you get through your days and nights, they're actually stimulating certain parts of your brain and making you smarter. Who woulda thunk?

There have been numerous studies conducted on the relationship between music and the brain. It is known that musical training as a child develops the brain to have more complete and distinct neural responses to music and speech, which results in more intense information processing than those kids who don't. People that play music are even said to have more grey matter in their brain, which is what determines muscle control, sensory perception, memory, emotions, speech, decision making, and self-control. So basically, any involvement in music, whether playing or being exposed to it, stimulates the brain and benefits the individual listening to it.

So what makes Korean pop so special? First off, assuming the listener is not a native Korean speaker, listening to Kpop bands will improve your understanding of the Korean language! Hear words often enough, they will register in your brain without any effort. Grooving to your favorite song is a lot more fun than reading a textbook, that's for sure. Believe it or not, this type of learning, by way of repetition, is proven to be one of the best ways to remember anything. Also, being exposed to Korean culture through Kpop love is another way your passion is making you more intelligent. By looking up to and falling in love with certain artists, a desire to learn more about their culture will follow, making you a more well-rounded individual with a deep understanding of a foreign culture. And last but not least, it's all about the focus. When you actually enjoy listening to or watching something, it's effortless focus. Listen to a song enough times, and before you know it, you'll be sining along in a language you never knew you could speak!

The best thing about K-pop is that songs are in Korean, which according to the Foreign Service Institute, is one of the hardest languages to learn in the world. So you're brain is going into overdrive, every time you put on those headphones, and you're getting a head start with all the words and phrases you already know through song. That's right, next time you put on those headphones for some Korean pop music, consider it a study session.
