Guo Shijun is in most ways an average university student. He lives in a dormitory and earns top marks. But he also convinced his university to allow his paralyzed father to stay with him in his dorm so that he can take care of him while in school.

Guo’s mother suffered from meningitis when he was young, resulting in her mental disability. Guo and his father took care of his mother, yet Guo managed to still maintain high grades. The unthinkable happened when his father was involved in a work accident, falling 15 meters off a bridge and paralyzing himself from the waist down.

While his grandparents took care of his mother, he convinced the university to move his father into his dormitory so that Guo could take care of him. He still managed to score top grades and even earned a scholarship to help him pay tuition, cost of living, and cost of care.

“I can’t say life is easy, but the only way out of the problem is through hard work, so I’m not complaining. I think once I graduate things will get much better,” Guo said.

Now that’s love.
