US release date set for Miyazaki's final film
The Wind Rises, the somewhat controversial final film from master animator Hayao Miyazaki, is coming to the United States.
Miyazaki is considered on of the best living film directors, and he recently announced that The Wind Rises, based on the life of aircraft designer, Jiro Horikoshi, would be his last feature. The film follows the life of the passionate designer whose planes were eventually used for kamikaze attacks during World War 2. Distributed by Disney, The Wind Rises will have its North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival. Audiences in New York City and Los Angeles will be able to see The Wind Rises for one week beginning November 8th, making it eligible for this year's Oscars, where it is expected to be nominated for Best Animated Film. The Wind Rises will be put into limited release on February 21st 2014, with a wider release on February 28th.
The Wind Rises is expected to have an excellent chance at winning an Oscar for Best Animated Film, given the lukewarm critical response this year to films from Pixar (Monsters University) and Dreamworks (The Croods, Turbo). Watch the English trailer for The Wind Rises below.
