USA network's Suits is planned for a K-drama remake
DramaFever has covered efforts to bring Kdrama remakes to American television, but now South Korean company EnterMedia Pictures will have a hand in bringing American television to Korea for a remake. Suits, a comedic drama about a savvy lawyer mentoring an under-schooled but brilliant legal associate, is filled with interoffice politics and romances, and it may have a remake as a K-drama.
Yvonne Pilkington, representative of NBCUniversal International, said the following: "This deal further cements our interest in broadening our activity in the vibrant Asian market. Having recently acquired Korean non-scripted formats for international distribution, we are excited to announce ‘Suits Korea' as our first scripted format deal in Asia."
The K-drama-to-CBS remake of Good Doctor, originally starring Joo Won as the title character, has been rumored to air late in 2015 with a 26-episode order. The setting has been changed to a Boston teaching hospital. Remakes of My Love From Another Star and Answer Me 1997 (remade as Answer Me 1999) are still listed as "In Development" for ABC.
