VIDEO: This amazing 4-year-old girl is fluent in seven languages
Just a few days ago, sweet 4-year-old Bella Devyatkina appeared on a Russian talent show, where she blew the judges, audience, and millions of viewers watching on television away by fluently giving answers to questions given to her in six different languages. And she's already an internet sensation!
Learning one foreign language can be challenging enough, let alone two or three. But for Bella Deyvatkina from Moscow, being able to converse in a total of seven languages is just like a walk in the park. Appearing on Incredible People, Bella at first didn't seem any different from your typical, happy-go-lucky 4-year-old girl. But once Bella answered questions from an English-speaker in fluent English, it was obvious that she was truly special. Not only did she speak perfect English, she demonstrated her reading and comprehension skills as well, before moving on to German, Spanish, French, Chinese, and finally, Arabic. And to think that she's not even 5 years old!
It is true, children have an easier time remembering and learning languages, but that doesn't mean Bella hasn't worked hard to become a superstar linguist. Her mother Yulia says that her daughter studies foreign languages for six hours a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, which probably explains why Bella can speak languages from three different groups: Indo-European (Russian, French, English, Spanish, German), Semitic (Arabic) and Sino-Tibetan (Chinese). As expected, online haters have accused Bella's mom of taking away her childhood, an accusation Yulia vehemently denies. The lessons, she insists, are created and carried out to be as fun as they can be. Bella enjoys learning, and watching her walk around on stage talking to all the foreign adults, she does look like she's having a pretty good time.
However, despite her unbelievable language skills, nothing about how she will turn out as an adult is guaranteed. According to a Russian neuropsychologist, being a prodigy as a child doesn't automatically equate to a successful future. No matter what the genre, abilities get lost, interest wanes over time. But as long as Bella continues to enjoy learning languages, and she continues to be raised with love and support, she's got a bright, international life ahead of her.
