You can now experience the magical world of Studio Ghibli in virtual reality
A sign of things to come, a virtual reality developer in England has released free downloadable scenes from three popular Studio Ghibli films, much to the delight of fans around the world who are excited to explore them virtually. Despite the scenes being somewhat incomplete for now, the technology is only going to get better, which means purchasing a VR headset in the near future should be in the plans for anyone who wants to enter the animated world of Hayao Miyazaki.
The man behind this awesome free gift of virtual reality is Nick Pittom, a creator for the virtual reality developmental studio Fire Panda in England. If you already have an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset, you're in luck, because scenes from My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are available for download here. For now, the scenes and situations are not interactive, but, of course, this is only the beginning. The day is sure to come soon enough when we will be able to virtually experience anything, whether animated or real-life, as long as we wear those headsets. It is estimated that by 2020, revenue from virtual reality will exceed 40 billion dollars. Watching movies, shows and even sporting events is going to be an entirely new kind of experience.
For now, we'll have to settle for these "incomplete" scenarios, but even they are fascinating, especially when you imagine the possibilities and the full potential of virtual reality in the very near future, which is sure to take us into worlds we never thought we could experience.
