According to the American Psychological Association, people really are awful at recognizing faces from other races. To prove it, a very unscientific but hilarious video shows young Korean men and women failing miserably at noticing the differences between Western celebrities.

Despite it not being a conscious effort, people actually do have trouble recognizing differences in the faces of people from races other than their own. It's not really a racist thing (even though sometimes it may be). It's actually called the cross-race effect, a tendency to more easily recognize members of one's own race. Apparently, people from homogenous cultures are more prone to not being able to tell apart faces of those from different ethnicities.

To put this effect to the test, Korean YouTube channel sw yoon put up a hilarious video of various Koreans trying to tell which Western celebrity was which. The  photos of celebrities shown to the participants were of Zooey Deschanel, Katy Perry, Amber Heard, Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Jeffrey Morgan, Javier Bardem, Jodie Foster, Natalie Portman, and Keira Knightly. Not to give too much away, but the participants did not do too well, scoring only 3 out of a possible 30 on the celebrity facial recognition tests they were given. The words "I think this is all the same person" were said more than once, proving once and for all, that indeed, we do all look alike. Especially Western celebrities.
