The new documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness gives audiences an unprecedented inside look at Studio Ghibli. And the most iconic sequence from the film shows legendary Ghibli mastermind Hayao Miyazaki animating the last shot of his career.

The clip shows Hayao Miyazaki completing the last shot of the Ghibli film The Wind Rises. It's completely fascinating to watch the genius animator go through his process of finishing the key sequence of the film.

And the director unintentionally gives us a poetic ending by saying to the documentarian, "Isn't animation fascinating?" If I was standing there I would have said, "Yes, because you made it that way."

It was reported that while this documentary was being made, Miyazaki made the decision to retire.
