It seems just like yesterday that Utada Hikaru released her debut album First Love, which went on to become the number one selling album in Japanese history. On December 9th, Universal Music will release an Utada cover album to celebrate the 15th year anniversary of her groundbreaking appearance on the music scene. For this special occasion, Kazuya Tsurumaki, director of Rebuild of Evangelion, directed an awesome video for Utada's Beautiful World, with scenes from all three past movies in the tetralogy edited together, and he even included some new, unseen footage from the last movie in the series which has yet to be released.

Named Japan's most influential artist of the decade in 2009, Utada Hikaru is already one of Japan's most successful recording artists of all time. Her new anniversary cover album Utada no Uta (songs of Utada), out tomorrow, will feature 13 artists from Japan and America singing 13 of Utada's songs. Some of the artists include Ayumi Hamasaki, Ringo Shiina, LOVE PSYCHEDELICO, and even Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis feat. Peabo Bryson. Eight songs out of the album are already available for streaming on her YouTube channel.

Utada Hikaru, who has provided theme songs for past movies in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, is an admitted Evangelion fan, and director Kazuya Tsurumaki is also a fan of Utada, which makes their collaboration all that more special.
