WATCH: Indian whiz kids use crazy hand movements to instantly solve math problems
A few days ago, I wrote about a four-year-old Filipino boy who enjoys solving geometric equations that many adults, including me, would probably have trouble with. Today, I would like to introduce some whiz kids from India who can instantly calculate numbers in their heads with their crazy hand movements.
When I was a kid, I thought I was pretty good at math, but now I know that I definitely wasn't as good as I thought I was. A video of some kids in India solving mathematical problems has surfaced online, and the speed at which they calculate numbers in their heads is mind boggling, to say the least. My hearing can't even catch up with the teacher's questions, let alone how fast these whiz kids solve them! Their technique involves using an imaginary abacus, which is a calculating tool, something I saw being used every so often by neighborhood kids or merchants while growing up in Tokyo. Unfortunately for me, I was never taught how to use it. But then again, I was given a calculator and taught how to use that, so that was fine by me.
I'm going to try this technique the next time I have to calculate some numbers!
