We love a good mystery drama, and we definitely adore a comedy! But bring the two together, and we bet the combination is magical! Say hello to our brand new mystery drama with a comical twist.  Queen of Mystery stars Choi Kang Hee as a bored ahjumma and Kwon Sang Woo as one passionate detective stuck in his old school methods of crime solving, and they create an unlikely crime-fighting duo full of hijinks! Can't wait to watch? Us too!

Choi Kang Hee and Kwon Sang Woo star in a comedy that shows it’s never too late to chase your dreams, even if it involves leaving your kitchen and chasing killers. When a housewife who thinks like a detective is partnered up with a detective who thinks like a thug, they become the heroes the city needs to fight crime. Yoo Seol Ok (Choi Kang Hee) always wanted to be a detective. She has the passion, and she has the deduction skills. She is not a detective, though. She is a bored housewife. She kills the time by reading many, many mystery novels. Her husband happens to be a prosecutor. He really fights crime. That’s no consolation to Yoo Seol Ok, though. She is forced to be a backseat driver, even though she’s good enough to take the wheel. Yoo Seol Ok has no interest in standard “ahjumma” roles, like fighting with the mother-in-law and bargain-hunting at the local grocery. She wants to solve crime. But being a mystery queen is just a dream for our lead lady -- until she ends up actually solving a crime, that is. Ha Wan Seung (Kwon Sang Woo) is a passionate detective. He is super old-school when it comes to solving crime. He thinks he can figure out who is and isn’t guilty just by looking. He thinks all investigations should happen on-site, which is the opposite of the deduction methods found in modern crime. The only way he thinks a criminal can be caught is with his fists. He launches personal attacks on all his colleagues and is just an unpleasant person to work with. Ha Wan Seung doesn’t respect people like Yoo Seol Ok, and thinks American drama series have ruined crime. He also doesn’t quite get the respect he deserves. Crimes have been getting increasingly bizarre and the public needs someone to solve them. That’s when Yoo Seol Ok gets some attention for solving a crime and is made Ha Wan Seung’s parter. And the detective is quite irritated that his new partner is a “meddling ahjumma” who learned everything about crime from fiction series. Now, the detective and the wannabe form an unlikely duo. He’s the old-school protocol with passion, and she’s the creative side with wit and wisdom. Can they work together to put fear in the hearts of scum everywhere, or will the queen of mystery learn that being a crime buster isn’t like what they wrote in the mystery novels?

Also known as “Mystery Queen,” Queen of Mystery is the latest action-comedy by director Kim Jin Woo. The drama is written by Lee Seong Min Il, a newbie who actually got her drama produced after winning a KBS competition for screenwriters (similar to the competition won by the writer of Radiant Office over on MBC). The drama debuts on KBS2 on April 5, 2017. It will run for 16 episodes and end on May 25, 2017, airing every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:00PM. Queen of Mystery has already been making waves online for three reasons: it’s fan favorite leads, having a relationship between a male and female lead that isn’t romantic, and for showing more varied roles for middle-aged women, commonly shown only in “ahjumma roles” in Korean television.

The extended cast for Queen of Mystery includes Choi Kang Hee as Yoo Seol Ok, Kwon Sang Woo as Ha Wan Seung, Lee Won Geun as Hong Joon Oh, Shin Hyun Bin as Jung Ji Won, Kim Hyun Sook as Kyung Mi (Seol Ok’s friend), Yoon Hee Suk as Kim Ho Chul (Seol Ok’s husband), Jun Soo, Jin as Kim Ho Soon (Seol Ok’s sister-in-law), Park Joon Geum as Park Kyung Suk (Seol Ok’s mother-in-law), Ahn Kil Kang as Bae Kwang Tae, Kim Min Jae as Lee Dong Ki, Jang Kwang as Ha Jae Ho, Yang Ik Joon as Jang Do Jang, Park Byung Eun as Woo Sung Ha, Jung In Ki as Jang Woo Sub and Lee Yoo Joon as Park Won Hee.
