Photographer Hiroshi Watanabe created an art series titled Suo Sarumawashi which is Japanese for “Monkey Dancing.” The series focuses on a tradition spanning 1,000 years of monkeys being trained to protect the horses used by Japanese warriors. The monkeys were trained to dance and perform various stunts, and although protection for horses is no longer needed, this very old and very cool tradition is still practiced today.
