SM K-pop artists collaborate with Katy Perry, Will.i.am, and more to cover John Lennon's "Imagine" for UNICEF
UNICEF’s latest #IMAGINE project has brought together several SM Entertainment artists and other famous non-Korean artists, such as Katy Perry, Will.i.am, and David Guetta, in one music video for a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” The SM artists featured include Siwon Choi (Super Junior), Chang Min Shim (TVXQ), Baek Hyun (EXO), Chen (EXO), Min Ho Choi (SHINee), Jay (TRAX), Seo Hyun (Girl’s Generation), Lee Dong Woo, and J-Min.
UNICEF’s #IMAGINE project started in November 2014 with the purpose of bringing attention to the difficulties children all over the world face by bringing together high-profile celebrities to create music. The first project included artists like Yoko Ono, Priyanka Chopra, and Yuna Kim.
When this project was introduced, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake said, “The #IMAGINE project gives people across the globe a chance to join a global movement for children, lending their ideas, their visions and, not least, their voices to advance the rights of every child, everywhere.”
In the past, SM Entertainment has partnered up with UNICEF before with Girls’ Generation unit TaeTiSeo donating a portion of the proceeds from their Christmas album to UNICEF, and EXO’s collaboration with fashion brand SPAO, which raised over $25,000 for the organization’s charity campaign “Schools for Asia.” In 2015, Super Junior’s Siwon Choi was named as a special representative for UNICEF Korea.
