New Year's is a huge holiday in Japan. A few days before the 31st of December, beginning pretty much right after Christmas, the entire nation prepares for about a week of partying, drinking and resting. Shrines are visited so everyone can pray for good fortune in the coming year. Everyone.
And one of those included in "everyone" is none other than Shinobu Tsukasa, kumicho, or boss of the Yamaguchi-gumi. So what sort of good fortune exactly does a boss of the largest and most notorious organized crime family in Japan pray for? I have no idea, but I'm sure if his face looks as scary as he does in the pictures while he's praying, the Shinto gods have no choice but to answer his prayers. And then some.
