Now, the prestigious International Emmy Awards has announced its 2016 award nominees, and two of them come from Asian time-travel dramas. Find out more about the nominees from South Korea and Singapore.
We usually hear about Korean and Chinese dramas, but how about a time-traveling drama from Singapore?
Echoes of Time stars Singaporean actress Dawn Yeoh, who travels back in time to the WW II era, meets a soldier and falls in love. The wartime soldier is played by Taiwanese actor James Wen (Wen Sheng Hao), famously known for playing the husband in Taiwanese drama, The Fierce Wife.
James is nominated for his performance in Echoes of Time in the Best Actor category, and he feels particularly honored and excited to be listed along with American actor and Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman in the same category. He even recalls that he wrote a paper on The Graduate, the famous movie starring Dustin Hoffman, when he was a student in cinema studies.
From South Korea comes a two-episode drama nominated in the TV movie/mini-series category.
Splash Splash Love, starring Kim Seul Gi (Oh My Ghostess, Second to Last Love) and Beast singer-actor Yoon Doo Joon (Let’s Fight Ghost, Let's Eat 2), is about a high-school girl who is transported to Joseon Korea and meets the crown prince. She ends up teaching the royal some modern-day ideas.
The 44th International Emmy Awards will be held on November 21 in New York City, and hosted by Alan Cummings in the award ceremony.
