A sake chugging festival, almost in its 60th year, took place yesterday in Akaoka of Kochi Prefecture, Japan with almost 8000 people in attendance. This annual drinking competition is no joke.

Men have to chug a 1.8 liter bottle of sake, women half of that. You are judged on speed and efficiency; no spilling while you drink. Strict rules, but everyone's kind of drunk, so no big deal. The attendees enjoy some sake with delicious local raw sardines on the side as they cheer on competitive sake drinkers from all over Japan.

This year, the winner in the men's competition drank 1.8 liters of sake in 14.8. seconds. That's an entire large bottle of sake! The women's champ finished 0.9 liters in 9.2 seconds. Pretty impressive!

No pressure.
