Singer Yim Jae Beom lost his wife Song Nam Young to cancer on Monday. She was 45. On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, the singer, his daughter, and other family members bid their last goodbye to Song at Shinchon Severance hospital’s funeral home. The funeral was held in private.

The Yim family has been battling with cancer for the past 10 years. Song was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer, which spread to her stomach, intestine, and uterus.

Yim wanted to provide the best for her, but she refused radiation therapy. Yim’s heart sank when she refused therapy, but he had no choice but to let her do what she wanted, which was the advice of a taxi driver who had lost two family members to cancer.

Yim also regretted not encouraging her to pursue musical. In the early days, Song had starred in musicals like Empress Myeongseong and Hard Rock Cafe.

Yim said in another interview that he had starred in the singing competition show I Am A Singer in 2011 to cover the cost of his wife’s treatment.

Yim Jae Beom’s music has appeared in many K-dramas. He is most notably known for singing the original soundtrack of Chuno.

Rest in peace, Song Nam Young.
