We are already halfway into the year of 2018. Let's look back at which dramas have become DramaFever viewers' top favorites so far this year. These gripping Asian dramas come with enthralling romances, sprawling sagas, riveting mystery and action, and more. Our list of the top 10 most popular Korean and Chinese dramas contain fantastic choices for your binge viewing or sharing with family and friends. Let's start!

The list presented here is selected from the most popular dramas based on ranking and viewership data from DramaFever's exclusive weekly top 10 most popular dramas during the first six months of 2018.

Before we begin the countdown, an explanation is needed about Legend of Fuyao. The brand new martial arts fantasy drama has taken the top place during its first week of broadcast. We salute its impressive opening but wondered whether we should exclude it for being a newcomer in the latter half of June. Ultimately, we cannot ignore its astounding performance and continued rise in viewership. If it were excluded, Moonshine and Valentine would have been in its place.

In reverse order of popularity:

10. Legend of Fuyao

9. Are You Human Too? - (Only on DramaFever)

8. My Mister - (Only on DramaFever)

7. Princess Agents

6. Call Me Mother

1. I'm Not A Robot

Note 1: Although some stellar dramas from prior years may still show up on our weekly top 10 lists, they are excluded from this list so that we can focus on 2018's new entries. (Yes, I'm looking at you Goblin, Love in Trouble , Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, and even Love O2O.)

Note 2: Due to licensing, some dramas arrived after their original broadcast but still climbed high due to their intrinsic draw. Princess Agents is a great example of a hit drama that continues to capture new fans. It sure doesn't hurt that it stars Zhao Li Ying, Lin Geng Xin (aka Kenny Lin), and Shawn Dou.

Honorable Mentions: Moonshine and Valentine, Tribes and Empires: The Storm of Prophecy, Secret of the Three Kingdoms, Go Go Waikiki, and Miss Hammurabi

What conclusions might one draw from this list of top dramas?

Korean dramas still deliver the most variety in genres and remain the most all-around popular with high ratings. Meanwhile, Chinese dramas are fast rising both in production values and original themes, with their modern stories catching up to historical dramas in popularity. K-dramas and C-dramas share almost equal placing among our list. Overall, fantasy is still a very popular element as it can be fused with both modern and historical storytelling. In our technologically advanced world, artificial intelligence is now a hot topic resulting in stories that explore human-robot relationships. No wonder I'm Not A Robot and Are You Human Too? are extremely popular, but another reason may be that they are uniquely different from western productions about artificial beings by emphasizing more romance comedy and relationship bonding.

DramaFever viewers are also discerning in choosing high-quality productions without shying away from serious and thought-provoking social issues. Call Me Mother and My Mister are prime examples. Women have always been indispensable in dramas, but we are seeing more dramas that headline actresses as the top leads, instead of just being co-stars to the leading men. Misty and Call Me Mother star actresses who deliver powerful performances as the lead characters. The female characters in historical dramas, although constrained by the depicted era in time, can still shine as skilled martial artists or display their intelligence in fighting to change their assigned stations in life. The Flame's Daughter, Princess Agents, and the new Legend of Fuyao are empowering examples.

Happy Viewing!
