Biography

Pepe Rubianes was born on the 2nd of September, 1947 in Pontevedra, Spain but was brought up in Catalonia. Known for his incisive humor, he defined himself as a Galician-Catalan actor: Galician because I was born in Galicia although I hardly ever lived there, and Catalan because I have always lived in Catalonia although I was never born here. His propinquity towards acting was established during his years at the Universitat de Barcelona, where he frequently participated in theatrical plays such as Henrik Ibsen’s Un enemigo del pueblo (An Enemy of the State).

He went on to have a prolific acting career, participating in various productions and writing his own plays including Pay-Pay, his first authored production, and Ssscum! which was shown in 1992 and was widely celebrated. He passed away on the 1st of March, 2009 after a year long battle against lung cancer.
