Biography

Aitana Sánchez-Gijón was born in Rome, Italy on November 5th, 1968. She debuted when she as 16 years old in the television with the series Segunda Enseñanza by Pedro Masó. Later on she partook in smaller roles like in the play La Gran Pirueta and in cinema too. Then Aitana got well recognized when she participated in the movie Bajarse al moro by Fernando Colmo. Her first role of protagonist was in the movie Vientos de Cólera which granted her the award for Best Actress in the Premio Paco Rabal.

In 1999, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón was named president of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas substituting José Luis Borau. 1995 was definitely the most prolific year for Aitana since she partook in four movies and a television series: Baltasar el Castrado, Boca a Boca, La Ley de la Frontera, Un Paseo por las Nubes along with Keanu Reeves and La Regenta. Soon after, she also released the play La Gata Sobre el Tejado de Zinc.
