I have been a huge fan of Nodame Cantabile (anime & live-action). So far, it's really taken the best that of both the anime (the seriousness) and live-action (the humor) had to offer while still having it's own unique spin. Now this part is subjective, but one thing I hope is, as a musician, one of the things I loved about the originals was its emphasis on the value of understanding the music on the page to find a way to create something new. This version (so far) seems to lead more to abandoning the score to make music. I do hope it really won't lead that way. As the anime put it, "Nodame, if you don't face the music more with your head, you surely won't be able to enjoy it with your heart." One of the joys in the anime in particular was how Nodame (Seol Nae in this case) had to learn the difference between musical freedom and ignorance, while Chiaki (Yoo Jin) had to learn that precision isn't everything...and that was part of what brought them together :-)
The cast is doing a good job. They remind me of my family at times. Their natural and more homely look is refreshing. Audience emotional connection is good...I can relate to the situations and their feelings.
