PARADISE is perfect — in story, direction, cinematography, acting and every other way. It is a story of salvation, focusing on a woman who has committed a misdeed she believes is unforgivable. Throughout, the pace is gentle. The main theme music, “Danny Boy,” fits the mood and theme of the film flawlessly. A visual theme of seeds punctuates the story and the theme of rebirth. At first the “seeds” are snowflakes falling as the young woman is released from prison. On Paradise Island we see real flower seeds being thrown into the air, taken by the wind and scattered across the island. Fireworks at a celebration explode like bright seeds and herald a new time of hope and joy for the islanders. All involved in making this film deserve the highest praises. They have mastered their art.
This historical drama is the best thing I have ever seen -- or perhaps I should say experienced. I was hooked from episode one until the end, and watched the whole thing is a little over a week. This, and the other Korean dramas I have seen, have completely ruined American TV and motion pictures for me. They are such exploitative trash. I have tried to convince friends to see this, and so far have failed. I feel like I am the only person in the world who has seen "Gone with the Wind" or "Star Wars", but I can't persuade anyone else to watch. Oh well. It is their loss.
Is the overweight Kang Joo Eun played by a different actress than Shin Min Ah, or was the weight change done with makeup?
