Biography

Yuan Shan Shan is a Chinese actress. Born in the historic city of Xiangyang, Hubei province, she originally wanted to study art but her teacher encouraged her to study acting. She was accepted by the Beijing Film Academy in 2005. She started acting in 2008 and would eventually become one of China's most popular actresses in historical dramas.

Initially she only had minor roles, but 2011 turned out to be a significant year for Yuan Shan Shan. She performed in four important historical dramas on TV of which she was the female lead in The New Thirteenth Princess and Qin Xiang Lian. She was praised and recognized for her natural beauty and talent. However, a cameo appearance in Palace (2011) would eventually bring her further acclaim.

In 2012, she was selected to star as the female lead in Palace 2, sequel to the extremely popular Palace (2011). She has since continued her success with starring roles in Beauties of the Emperor (2012) and Swordsman (2013).
